On June 12th at the Arena Corinthians in São Paulo, a young paraplegic will stand up from his or her wheel chair and take the official first kick of the tournament. Magic? No. Science? Yes.
Miguel Nicolelis, a neuroengineer based at Duke University, has developed a mind-controlled robotic exoskeleton suit for paraplegics that he believes will make wheelchairs a thing of the past. The suit is built from lightweight alloys and powered by hydraulics, and does the job of leg muscles. AMAZING VIDEO HERE TOO.
